It’s pop quiz time. How many of you are looking around your house wishing it would feel better, but you can’t put your finger on exactly what needs to be done? Creating a home that functions well and feels just right can be tricky. There is no simple formula to create equal harmony in your home. It is unique to each person and space.
Create functional spaces. If there are spaces in your home that aren’t working for you, most of the time there are great solutions to make them better. Sometimes it’s as simple as adding a bench to take off shoes. Or it’s reworking your floor plan to add another bathroom. The goal is to live in a space that works for you and your family and eliminate the daily struggles in your home. There are enough difficult things in life, and living in a space that doesn’t function well shouldn’t be one of them.
Making memories is something I think about often when designing. My goal is to create spaces people will love for many reasons. Spaces that are functional, comfortable, unique, and make for lifelong memories. One way I accomplish this is by making sure there is enough room to host holiday dinners or to have nieces and nephews over for a sleepover. Other times it’s capturing a feeling. At my house, I want anyone that comes over to feel like they can come in, kick off their shoes, and get comfortable.
Enhance your home’s attributes. Many of us in the gorge have stunning views. I’m lucky enough to be one of those people and I designed my house completely around my Mt. Adams view. I never get tired of sipping my coffee while watching the sunrise on the mountain. It’s one of the highlights of my day. I love creating spaces like this that people will enjoy daily. Maybe it’s having a glass of wine by the fireplace in the evening, or soaking in a luxurious bath. These are the little pleasures we all deserve to indulge in. Creating spaces that make life a little happier is what my job is all about. Life is too short not to love the space you dwell in.
As you go about your day and you notice things in your home that you wish to change, take note of them. If you’re looking to increase your home’s function and add a little luxury to it, be sure to connect with a designer. I am happy to help make your life a little easier and more enjoyable!
